Tom Duffield was, it is apparent, born to play the blues. After years playing in regional bars, juke joints and honky tonks, as a solo artist and with Loaded Dice and The Loaded Dice Trio among other bands, his repertoire of piano blues and boogie-woogie is large and ever growing. You may have heard him perform at any number of local venues, such as Wonderfuls, The Dog House, O’Duffy’s, Kraftbrau, or for K’zoo Folklife, the Great Lakes Acoustic Music Association, and The Kalamazoo Valley Blues Association.
Lorraine Caron first sang solo in front of an audience, (at Kalamazoo’s Westwood King Elementary School), when she was five years old, and spent time over the years singing in choirs, (and the shower, always the shower), before singing with the likes of Kalamazoo singer/songwriters Susan Harrison, Patricia Pettinga and the regional bluegrass band Sweetcorn. An avid listener of music, Lorraine also co-hosts with Mark Sahlgren the acoustic music program Grassroots on Kalamazoo public radio station WMUK.
After years of seeing each other “everywhere” at live music events around town, Tom and Lorraine became friends, and now meet weekly to play and sing.
